PlantingSeed™ Ocean Jasper Sweet Potato Lariat

$295

Handcrafted lariat made with antiqued sterling silver and ocean jasper. These cabochons highlight the external symptoms of sweet potato leaf spot fungus, Pseudocercospora timorensis in sweet potatoes.

The entire length of the lariat represents the distance between planting rows of sweet potatoes and each gem is a seed within the row. The piece can be worn in a variety of ways, simply dangling in front, or knotted, or wrapped around the neck. Any way you wear is unique to yourself as well as an eye catching statement piece.

PlantingSeed™ Lariats were created to spread awareness of how there are people still planting seeds by hand. Wearing this lovely lariat promotes a dialogue of food insecurity that many in the world are at risk of today. With every fine PlantingSeed™ lariat purchase, a durable lariat is donated to a farmer for her to wear and use to grow more food.

100% of the proceeds feed back into the PlantingSeed™ program of Grow More Foundation®, a 501(c)3 non-profit NGO that promotes the responsible use of science to solve our agricultural problems around the world. Grow more to feed the world.

Sweet potato leaf spot is widespread in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Oceania. Leaf spots are brown, circular to irregular on the upper surface, sometimes with light brown centers and occur on mature leaves. The spores occur mostly on the spots on the underside of the leaf, and are spread by wind.

This piece highlights not only how to plant seeds, but also how provides a dialogue of food insecurity and the issues farmers face growing food.
